A new product for animal health from a scientist at MAKÜ; 'Memoderm' is coming

Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University (MAKÜ) Faculty of Veterinary Medicine faculty member Prof. Dr. Mehmet Kale offers a natural solution to the common issue of udder edema in dairy cows with the herbal mixture he developed. The product, planned to be commercialized under the name 'MAKÜ Memoderm', aims to make significant contributions to animal health and milk yield.

Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University, specializing in livestock, has added another study to its research on animal diseases and treatment methods. The new project led by Faculty of Veterinary Medicine faculty member Prof. Dr. Mehmet Kale has developed a natural treatment method for udder edema (commonly known as “hardness of the udder”) which frequently occurs in cattle and cows during the pre- and post-partum periods.

The herbal mixture formulated by Prof. Dr. Kale yields effective results both in alleviating the edema and in maintaining milk yield. The product is currently in the trial phase to be made available for veterinarians and breeders under the 'MAKÜ Memoderm' brand.

Prof. Dr. Kale stated that udder edema is a significant problem in dairy farming and said:

“Udder edema is generally a problem that arises during the pre- or post-partum period, especially in high-yield cows. Currently, different treatment methods are being applied, but there is no standard methodology. We have developed a plant-based, natural solution to this problem. Our product consists of a combination of both liquid and oil-based structures and is obtained entirely from natural plant extracts.”

Kale emphasized that if udder edema is not treated, it can lead to a decrease in milk yield and pave the way for serious diseases such as mastitis, stating that their developed formula prevents this process. Kale said; “The deficiency of certain minerals in the animal's nutrition, especially the imbalance of elements such as sodium, potassium, copper, magnesium, and zinc can cause edema. In our product, we contributed to the alleviation of udder edema caused by these deficiencies through topical application methods, for which we combined natural plant oils and extracts. We received quite positive results from the trials.”

Prof. Dr. Kale stated that they continue to effectively use phytotherapy (herbal supportive/complementary application) methods in livestock and announced that the new product is planned to be launched in the market shortly. Kale, stating that it can be used safely thanks to its natural content; believes that 'MAKÜ Memoderm' will be an important alternative for both veterinarians and breeders. With its herbal contents, it protects animal health and increases milk yield. We have created a product that stands out from other commercial products thanks to its natural content.”
